DVM/PhD Combined Degree Program

Why pursue this extra training? These training modules will help you better integrate clinical and translational research concepts across the entire DVM/PhD program at your institution. They will also provide you with a peer network, role models of clinical and translational scientists, and a distinguishing credential on your CV .

  • These optional training modules are available to DVM/PhD trainees across the country through a collaboration between COHA and NAVS (the student-led National Association of Veterinary Scientists).
  • These modules will address three phases of training:
    • Veterinary Scientist Professional Development (Y1-Y6)
    • Integrating Research into the Clinic Years (Y7-Y8)
    • Transitioning after the DVM/PhD (Y7-Y8)
        • (Your actual years may vary with your program structure)

  • Combined degrees students are welcome to participate in as many, or as few, modules as they choose.
  • The COHA Steering Committee will approve trainee module completions and issue a COHA Clinical and Translational Scientist certificate.
  • The trainee should maintain an individual checklist of training modules attended, signed off by trainee’s PhD and/or clinical mentors. This is an honors system program.
  • Completion of a specific number of modules will allow trainees to earn a COHA Clinical and Translational Scientist certificate.
    • This certificate is awarded by the COHA Steering Committee after accumulating 5 module points during combined DVM/PhD training.
    • The Clinician Scientist Education subcommittee with review and update training modules annually.
    • Current training module options are listed below.

Program Coordinator: Dr. Christine Toedebusch, cmtoedebusch@ucdavis.edu

  • Please contact Dr. Toedebusch if you are interested in collecting points towards this COHA Certificate.
